002 [video/action for Goldenrod]
[Lightning and Phoenix had gone pretty much directly to Goldenrod after dropping Namine off in Cherrygrove, so Phoenix has arrived in the Big City significantly faster than he had the first time he'd tried getting here.
The video feed opens with a small Shinx curled up on a bench next to the lawyer, dozing happily, with Phoenix's Aipom perched on his lap, nibbling happily on a treat.]
I'd forgotten how big this city is. It's a little like home, at least, moreso than Violet or Cherrygrove -- but is it just me, or is it even BIGGER than it was before?
[Maybe he's just not used to the train actually running. Prin looks up from her snack, giggles up at him. Phoenix's hand comes into frame to give the Aipom some very welcome head pets.] Anyway, I was wondering what the job market here is like nowadays. Is there a demand for defense attorneys yet? It's hard to believe no one here has done anything illegal. (Or done anything illegal and gotten CAUGHT.)
[Then again, there aren't really any courts here either, huh? You might just be shit outta luck for applying your skill set here, Phoenix.]
If I have to go back to my minimum-wage college days, it's not like I mind, but -- after finally getting my badge back, I feel weird not putting it to work. So if anyone ever needs any kind of legal counsel...just give me a call.
Oh! Right. [Phoenix pans back to the snoozing Shinx, who has rolled over onto his back, little feet kicking in the air a little.] I haven't thought of a name for this guy yet. Any suggestions?
[Private audio to Killua Zoldyck:]
Hey, sorry for not getting in touch sooner! We were in a bit of a rush.
I got those flowers you wanted in Cherrygrove. Were you going to send someone to come get them, or...? I'm in Goldenrod at the moment, if that helps.

[Yes, that's about what she took away from your message there.]
Does he remind you of someone? Or something. Cause if he does you can name him that.
...not really? Mostly he just sleeps a lot.
He reminds me of what I wished I could be in college: actually sleeping.
But other than that, nothing is coming to mind...
[This one was raised on Disney.]
Or something to do with his power.
What do you think of that, little guy?
[Nope, too busy sleeping. No comment. Looks like he's officially Simba now, though.]
It's really good.
[He also doesn't want anyone getting any smart ideas around ledges. The chance to make the reference might be too tempting for some.]
[You know, so it's probably okay.]
... you don't think it's rude to name them after dead people, do you? I mean, people do that all the time. Like with the presidents.

Just follow that and you should end up in the warehouse district, my build is the one that says the Dojo on it.
[video -> action]
[Click!]
[The district is a little ways away from where Phoenix was at, so it takes a little while for him to navigate through the busy streets to the much calmer warehouse district. Glancing around, he seeks out the sign Killua mentioned, and beelines towards it once spotted.]
[action] Sorry for the late reply!
no worries!!
no subject
[He gets up and stretches before turning to face Phoenix.]
As least the warehouse district is easy to get through there aren't many shops over here.

[Phoenix fishes around in his bag, pulls out the flowers he's had protected in plastic wrapping and damp towels.] Are these fine?
[video; i'm SO LATE i'm sorry]
[Coming from a guy that named a Pichu 'Samhildánach'.]
Molly dubbed him Simba, though, which works for me.
[watch and you can see the reference sail over his head]
Well, guess if it fits that's all that counts.
[Continues to forget that people come from other worlds until he's dutifully reminded.]
[You're trying, Phoenix.]
This the kinda thing I should really know about?
It's a kid's movie that came out when I was growing up. Simba is the main character. He's a lion -- er. If you know what a lion is.
If it makes you feel better, they probably had it in my world--I'm kinda out of touch with modern things like that.
[Phoenix lifts the sleeping cat up the the camera. He doesn't wake up.]
[Action]
[In one fluid movement, a huge dark blur leaps over the back of the bench, colliding with Phoenix's shoulders and sending him to the ground. He's been on the move ever since he bumped into Lightning.]
[Action]
Phoenix pushes himself up a bit, winded, trying to see who his sudden assailant was --
-- and once he does, he breaks into a laugh, shakes his head.] That's my name, Jack. It's good to see you too.
no subject
I ran into a friend of yours and heard that you had already made it into town. I wish my Freedom Goat project was further along, but don't worry, you'll have one before you know it! How was your trip? Have you caught any new Pokemon? Are you hungry?
[blahblablabla]
no subject
or skettle down, as it were.Phoenix laughs again, takes the offered help and gets back on his feet, tries to answer as many of Jack's questions as he can.]Yeah, it was. I made some new friends in New Bark town -- we dropped one off in Cherrygrove, and then I showed Lightning the rest of the way here. I haven't been in town for long -- I've only really been able to see Heather, aside from -- well, you, of course.
[New Pokemon? OF COURSE! Prin bounds back up Phoenix's shoulder the second she's brought up, giggles and extends a paw towards Jack. The Shinx, though, is having none of it, cowering behind the bench.] Yeah, uh -- Jack, this is Prin. She's my starter Pokemon this time around, it looks like. And...you spooked Simba. C'mon, little guy, Jack won't hurt you.
[Phoenix crouches, trying to coax the Shinx out, but -- no such luck. He hisses a little, paws angrily at the ground.]

I'm sorry, Simba. I forget every month isn't October. Even though it should be.

no subject
[And he does, making sure he's a good yard or two away from the frightened Electric-type.]
Once your new friend has calmed down, is there anything you would like to do in particular before I give you the grand tour of Skellington House?
no subject
[Simba disagrees.]
Um... I'm not sure, Jack. Has there been anything new since the last time I was here?
no subject

[A circus...wow. That's right up Jack's alley.]
no subject
[He heaves a big sigh and can't help but smiling wistfully.]
Well, Phoenix, we're burning daylight! Let's go!
[And whether Phoenix likes it or not, he'll be dragged all over Goldenrod.]
no subject
Okay, okay, right behind you. [SLOW DOWN, JACK. Remember, he's an OLD MAN now.]
